Dickson Sorensen began his filmmaking career at EUE/ Screen Gems in New York. There he worked in production and headed the camera department. He worked as an Assistant Cameraman on commercials, feature films and documentaries rising through the ranks to the position of Director of Photography. In the capacity as D.P. he worked with directors Adrian Lyne, Brian Gibson, Bob Brooks, Terry Bedford, Dick Richards, William Graham. In the mid eighties he began shooting and directing television commercials represented by Lofaro and Associates then the Artists Company in New York. In the late 90’s Cornerstone Pictures in Philadelphia then Bonefish Films in Miami represented him. Since that time he has produced through Forest Grove Productions.
As a Director/ Cinematographer he has worked in the U.S., Australia, Canada, England, France, Italy, Venezuela, Mexico and the Caribbean. In the fashion category his clients have included Finesse Shampoo, Avon, Revlon and Elizabeth Arden. For A.T.&T. he filmed the Houston Ballet, for Panasonic the Louis Falco Dance Co. and for Shulton The American Ballet. In the automotive category he has shot spots for Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and Fiat. Sorensen has shot racecar footage for Lowenbrau, Target, Havoline and Old Milwaukee and motorcycles for Honda and Yamaha. He has worked with many celebrities, actors, and sports figures including President Reagan, Michael Jordan, Dennis Weaver, Rachael Ward, Merv Griffin, Kate Jackson, Lindsay Wagner. Sorensen photographed the Additional Photography (second unit) for the feature film “Flash Dance” and served as Director of Photography on a portion of the mini-series “George Washington II.” He served as Director of Photography on the TV concert special “Trisha Yearwood with the London Symphony Orchestra.” In addition he has written, photographed and edited shorts and documentary films including “Vision, the Quaker School” and “Highway to Nowhere.”
His commercials for Jeep and Pioneer won awards from the Clios. His work for Chevy, Havoline and Wheaties garnered awards from the Houston International Film Festival. His “Geo” spots received awards from the Detroit Creative Directors Council and an A.T.&T. spot received “Advertising Age Best.” His still photography won awards at “Phillips Mill Photographic Exhibit.” |
